2X12″ Subs in My Subie!

I’ve almost always ran a sub (or subs) in my vehicles. The only couple I have never ran subwoofers in are my 1967 Comet and a 1997 VW VR6 we had back in 2001. Other than that; every vehicle since around 1990 has had some bass inside.

For the last few months (6 maybe) I’ve been running a single 12″ Kicker Competition sub in a pre-fab box. I use the JVC 7000 series Arsenal amplifier running Mono to the subwoofer (now plural).

The Amplifier is mounted under the drivers seat (so I can get a hold of the knobs easily since my music choices have very varied levels of bass). Tool; fire up the bass. Stuff You Should Know podcast, pull it down a bit.

Back to running the single 12 vs the new dual 12″ Kicker box. One of the guys at work was selling his minivan (Honda Odyssey) and needed a single 12 to replace the box he had in there (a band pass dual sub box with plexi-glass top). So I gave him my 12″ sub and a tube 8″ I had been using for the dual sub box he showed me. Today I get done teaching the Cub Scouts at summer camp how to GeoCache and there be these two thumpity thump 12″ Subs sitting in my mistakenly unlocked Subaru Forester STi.

I quickly “edited” my current speaker wires (with my teeth) hooked up the new box and whomp; loads of fun. Here is a picture of it after I moved everything around and cleaned it up a little.

I’m still debating on moving my AMP to the back of the car but I really do like getting my hands on the knobs when the bass isn’t there; or is over powering what ever I’m listening to.

Comet Restoration Pictures

Here are two pictures from my dad. He took them during the restoration of my car last year.

Don’t think that car has been torn down that far since he purchased the car back in the early 90′s. We’ll be headed home this October, I’ll take a bunch more pictures of it and get some history about the process for the blog. I’m still blown away that he did this car for me. It’s awesome.
